of artists of 19th century

Post-Impressionism is an extension of Impressionism, rejecting some of the limitations of the style of Impressionism. It was an English art critic named Roger Fry who had first coined the term post Impressionism taking in regard the works of Paul Cezanne, Georges Suerat, and Paul Gauguin. If you are buying paintings of artists of 19th century, you need to know about these artists.

1. Paul Cezanne

Paul Cezanne (1839–1906) had laid the foundations of Post-Impressionism and the transition from Impressionism to the new era in art. He was often considered as one of the transitional artists who had seen both the movements of Impressionism and post-Impressionism and also the artistic conception in the 19th century to the new world of the 20th century. Paul Cezanne is more popular among artists who have a deep interest in Cubism because it was him who had started this artistic endeavour. His paintings can be distinguished by his repetitive and small brushstrokes and his uses of colour to develop complex fields. Artists who have revolutionized Cubism had remarked that Cezanne “is the father of us all”.

2. George Seurat

George Seurat (1829- 1891) was a renowned post-impressionist artists of 19th century who is well known among the painting masters even in today’s date for developing the technique of Chromoluminarism. He was also one of the founding members of Pointillism and his predecessors had found the actual term for these techniques. He also used on the conte crayons making his drawings along with painting some of the best post-Impressionistic artworks that became more popular than him after his demise. His paintings such as A Sunday Afternoon On The Island Of La Grande Jatte became one of the most celebrated modern arts that was foundational as a new Impressionism artwork in the 19 century.

3. Paul Gauguin

Paul Gauguin (1848–1903) was another foundation of French post-impressionist artists who was appreciated after his demise as an exceptional artist of the century. His paintings have a touch of colour experimentation and the Synthetist style that distinguishes it from any impressionist artwork. Residing in Polynesia in his later life, he drew the landscape and people of Polynesia. In his lifetime, he was also highly influenced by Avant-garde artists like Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso and was friends with the Van Gogh brothers. He was also a fundamental figure in the Symbolism movement and highly influenced by a style which he later developed into Primitivism.

These artists had successfully revolutionized art post-Impressionism and influenced their predecessors in the coming generation to continue forward.
